Episode 1 of the long-term documentary on Stadtentwässerung Frankfurt's new digested sludge treatment plant: from the official groundbreaking to the first drilling rigs on site. Aerial footage shows the scale of the project, while the people in charge explain what is being built.
The starting signal for a major project
Stadtentwässerung Frankfurt is rebuilding its digested sludge treatment – a project that will run over several years. So that the public, employees and partners can follow the construction, we are documenting it in a series of episodes.
Episode 1 opens with the groundbreaking: guests, press and project partners in the marquee, speeches and the symbolic first spade. Then it moves straight to the site, where work is already under way.
Production process

Groundbreaking
We covered the event in the marquee: the speeches, the display boards about the new plant and the moment the first spade goes into the ground. This makes the official launch part of the series.

Construction start
On the same shooting day we captured aerial footage of the site and scenes of the first works: drilling rigs, concrete mixers and surveying. The drone shows how large the site is and where the new facilities will stand.
03
Voices and editing
In on-site interviews, the people in charge at Stadtentwässerung explain what is being built and why. In the edit, we condensed the event, the site and the statements into a compact episode – with sound design and colour grading that set the look for the whole series.
Result
Episode 1 tells the story of the project's launch in a way everyone can follow – on the Stadtentwässerung website, on social media, in public information and internally. The series continues with Episode 2.
