Explainer videos, also known as explanatory videos, how-to videos or explanation videos, illustrate complex relationships in a simple and understandable way.
An explainer video answers questions or solves problems from the viewers’ world. An explanatory video is also there to illustrate abstract topics or to provide background information. Both variants are about the right mixture of information and entertainment. Explainer videos are supposed to provide the viewer with valuable information and also entertain him. Especially with difficult and tricky content, it is important that the viewer has fun watching the video despite the complexity. It’s all about infotainment!
Creative variety in demand for Explainer Videos
Explanatory films can be realized in many different ways:
- Vector Animation
- White Board Animation
- 2D animation
- 3D animation
- Motion graphics
- Stop-trick animation
- Screen Cast Animation
- Live Scribble Video
There are no limits to creativity!
A comprehensible explanation for the viewer
In any case, it is important that the complex information in the explanation video is prepared in such a way that the viewer can quickly and easily access it. This also involves choosing a language that is as simple as possible and corresponds to the target group. This allows the topic to be simplified at the audio level. In the ideal case, there is also a reduction in the visual language. And here, too, it’s the right mix that makes the difference. Abstract topics, for example, can be explained by a voice-over as well as visualized by animated illustrations. In this way, the explanation videos become a real aha-experience for the audience!
The theme determines the running time
With regard to the optimal length of an explainer video, the well-known motto applies: as short as possible, as detailed as necessary. Simple everyday problems, for example, can be solved and explained in 60 seconds. A complex technical process or a detailed product presentation, on the other hand, takes up to 10 minutes to be explained completely and, above all, comprehensibly.
Keep an appropriate narrative tempo in mind
In general, however, an explainer film should get straight to the point and provide the viewer with the desired information briefly and concisely. But the illustrative explanation and the voice over should give the viewer so much time to really understand the explained topic. The ideal length of an explanatory video is between 90 and 180 seconds.
